Résumé There are those who claim that Le Brun is the greatest of the fresh painters. Others say that he was an inspired master gifted with superior powers. There is no doubt that the First Painter to king Louis XIV had many devoted admirers. But any important figure is sooner or later discredited by an opposing ideological movement of some kind. the main purpose of this book is to view Le Brun through the eyes of the time in which he lived in order to better appreciate him.
